I have recently moved, and since staring at furniture on a computer all day is my job, by the time I need to make personal decisions about what to order, I’m over it. I have no motivation to order even things like a shower curtain or throw blanket. It also doesn’t help that everything I’m looking at all day is beautiful, which confuses me even more about what I want to pull the trigger on. I find myself endlessly analyzing the endless options and feeling increasingly uncertain about what I actually want. I’m also very picky, so I would rather have no shower curtain than one at all.
Vintage has always been my go-to style and where I find the most value when it comes to furniture. I see furniture as an investment: 1) I don’t want to bring anything into my home that I won’t love in three years (mental investment), and 2) I want to avoid spending money on pieces with little to no resale value.
I’ve rounded up the shops where I’ve been spending the most time scrolling, screenshotting, and photoshopping pieces into my space. It’s where I often find myself Googling the designer’s name from their website (or Instagram captions) and going down a deep rabbit hole to learn more. Shopping at these places also feels educational and inspiring. I call them my “palette cleanser” shops.
Located in France. Extremely sweet team. Their collection feels and is always very unique. Many of the pieces resemble true, one-of-a-kind vintage treasures.
Located in Paris. Pierre finds gold.
Located in the UK. They are just really cool and have a really cool selection. If I were opening a bar or club in NY, they would be my go-to furniture store to partner with.
Located in LA. Founded by Gabriela Rosales. Her eye and curation are very selective, timeless, and minimal. Feels very The Row but furniture. She also did the interiors for Sophie Buhai.
Located in Montreal. I’ve always wanted to buy something from them, but I’m never quick enough. You don’t necessarily need anything on their site, but I’m sure there’s a random corner in your house that needs a spider chair. Their curation and style are so distinctive, and they’ve stayed true to it over the years, which is inspiring in itself.
Located in London. A perfect mix of contemporary and vintage. Sophie, the founder, represents an amazing group of artists that you won’t be able to shop anywhere else.
xx!
